Obituary for David Franklin "Bunny" McColman

MCCOLMAN, David “Bunny”
David “Bunny” McColman peacefully passed away on Thursday, December 3, 2020, in his 90th year, into the loving arms of Noreen “Neen”, who he missed very much. Son of the late James and Frieda McColman. He was born in Thessalon, Ontario on October 16, 1931 and spent his early years working on the tugs on the Great Lakes with his parents and many siblings. He often told stories about growing up on the water and talked fondly about working at the Steel Plant as a young man and in construction as a heavy equipment operator later in life.
Dad had a special passion for boats. We have many fond memories of going through the Soo Locks and getting a play-by-play on the history of each boat. He always looked forward to attending the annual Tug Boat Races on the St. Mary’s River.
He also played a great guitar and mouth organ at the same time and played many sessions with nephew Darren, daughter Kim and niece and nephew Margie and Wayne Nott. He was taught to play by his very talented sister Jean and his mother Frieda who played piano for the silent movies at the Thessalon Theater many years ago.
Loving father of Terry (Kathy), David (Darlene), Kim Ansley (Terry), Kelly (Clark), Kathy Pinkse (Mark), Michael (Robin), Stacey Graham (Mike) and special nephew Bud Anderson (Carole). Grandfather of 10 and great grandfather of 6.
Bun was the youngest and last of his clan: Eva, Jimmy, Marie, Ardell, Kenny, Woodrow, Sherlock, Jean, Birdie and Margaret.
Treasured brother in law of Reid Sharbot (late Sheila), Alberta MacLean (late Boxer), Shirley McColman (late Sherlock), Rita McColeman (late Ken), the late Clara and Victor Scheurmann, Sheila Sharbot, Beatrice and Dick Chisholm, Boxer Anderson, Marnie Martin, Harvey Lewis, Stewart Turner and Larry Frost. Fun loving uncle to many nieces and nephews. He spoke very fondly of each and every one of you.
The family would like to thank the NSHN-Thessalon and Blind River for their care and to Dr. Keating, Dr. Blois, Dr. Crawford, Dr. Shamas and Amy Vine for their professionalism and compassion. Also, special thanks to home care nurse Amy for your compassion and honesty and to PSW’s Chelsey, Illa and Donna and CCAC Physiotherapists Shannon and Marlo. You are truly amazing, compassionate and special to do this field of work.
A private graveside service will be held.
