Obituary for Bud MacIver

MACIVER, Glen “Bud” March 8, 1929 – March 21, 2023
On Tuesday, March 21, 2023, having recently celebrated his 94th birthday, Glen MacIver, known to family and friends as “Bud”, died peacefully in his home. As he told us, he was “ready” to join his dearly missed wife of 62 years Yolande (nee Gagnon) and his youngest cherished son, Donny (Don). He will be lovingly missed by his children Glenna (Claude), Wayne and Danny (Kristine). His grandchildren Jean-Pierre (Theresa), Stephanie (Jason), Tyler, Monik and Koty (Brenna) will lovingly remember “Papa Bud” and “Grand-Papa Bud”. He will also be fondly remembered by his great-grandchildren Taylor, Jordan, Sophie and Alexandre.
He was predeceased by his siblings and their spouses Verna Hoeberg (John), Doreen Timmermans (Dick), Bernard “Rusty” MacIver (Paula), Donna Eastman (Emil), Joanne Panabaker (Paul) and Joanne’s first husband John Ukos. He will be missed by his devoted brother-in-law Marcel Gagnon and many nieces and nephews.
Born in 1929 in Rydal Bank, Ontario, during the height of the Great Depression, his parents Annie and Donald MacIver instilled in their children values that shaped them to be successful in life. Signed by the Montreal Canadiens, Bud was a well-known hockey player in the Blind River area. He would move on to play professionally in Wisconsin, Louisville and Detroit. He later used those skills to mentor and coach many young hockey players in the Blind River area. An avid outdoorsman, Bud shared many hunting and fishing stories, including exciting tales of piloting his bush plane to reach remote fishing holes and hunting grounds. A skilled entrepreneur, he and his beloved wife Yolande built a thriving family operated tourism business near the Mississauga River. In addition, when he established MacIver Transportation, Bud became many children’s favourite school bus driver. But above all else, his true passion in life was his family. Dad passed on this ‘larger than life’ spirit which continues to inspire us today. He was caring, generous and tenacious. We will miss him dearly.
The family would like to thank Dad’s personal care worker, Renee Jensen, for her kind and compassionate care. Also, heartfelt gratitude goes out to the wonderful staff of the North Shore Health Network, Blind River for their excellent care. Above all, we are forever grateful to Dad’s “right hand man”, Tyler MacIver, who was his main caregiver and assistant over the last four years of his life. Thank you for lovingly and patiently caring for Papa.
Family and friends are invited to visit at the Menard Funeral Home in Blind River on Saturday, April 22, 2023 between 1pm and 3pm. The family gratefully appreciates donations to the North Shore Health Network Foundation, Blind River Site. Arrangements entrusted to Menard Funeral Home www.menardfh.cm
