Obituary for Jean Claude "John" Valiquette

VALIQUETTE, John
November 22, 1934 - November 23, 2020
John passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family, age 86. Beloved wife and best friend for 63 years of Gail (nee Patterson). Loving, kind, and patient father of Terry, Scott (Tracy), Jay (Kim), Nevin (Trudy) and Ginette (Brian). Proud Grandpa and Papa of the late Jordan, Matt (Sam), Shelby, Jesse, Sara (Cody), Drew (Sierra), Shaymus and Erika. Great Papa John of Everett, Emilia, Adelaide, Kennah, Kyra, Ryder, Maisen and Zoey. Loved and forever missed by his siblings Andrew (Connie), Lily Ritchie (Trevor), Claire Fisher (George) and his sister in law Nancy. Predeceased by his parents Edmund and Marguerite as well as his siblings Yvan (the late Doris), Jack (the late Julene), George, Paul (the late Susan Gaye). One in a million Uncle of many nieces and nephews.
John was a kind and gentle soul. He was a well-read historian who chronicled local events through his photography and storytelling. He told the best stories and could captivate his audience with his animation. His favorite spot was on the front porch with Gail and Nigel, his faithful dachshund. John’s greatest treasures were his family and his books. He spent many years at the rink coaching and watching his boys and grandchildren play hockey. He is still affectionately known to many as “Coach”. We will forever miss his great conversations and his easy smile.
The family would like to thank Dr. Haapala, Dr. Blois and Dr. Crawford who went above and beyond for John. They also want to thank his home care nurse Amy and his caregivers Chelsea, Ila, Marcie and Donna. A special thanks to Megan, Beth and Joanne.
If desired, donations can be made to NSHN-Thessalon Site or to the Thessalon IOOF Hall. Please mail or drop cheques to Beggs Funeral Home 175 Main St., P.O. Box 280, Thessalon, ON P0R 1L0.
A celebration of John’s life will be announced and held at a later date.
