Obituary for Farrel MacDonald

MACDONALD, Farrel (John)
June 18, 1941 – October 24, 2022

Some count their lives in hours and days. Farrel’s life was measured by people and place.

Farrel was the beloved son of Jack and Bess MacDonald, and proud brother of Rod MacDonald. He is survived by his wonderful wife of 45 years, Linda (Currie), who fell in love with his outdoor spirit. Farrel was quiet by nature but voracious in his dedication and love for his children, Matt and Jackie, Nikki, Drew and Natalie. After a northern adventure of six winters in the Arctic, Farrel and Linda’s lives were made complete by the arrival of their adored grandchildren, Mason, Cole, Niyah, Sam and Olivia.

He was fortunate to share many years of love and fun with his siblings through marriage, MaryAnne MacDonald and Dave and Sheila Currie. He will be dearly missed by his nieces and nephews, Lisa and Stu, Kirsten and JC, Ryan and Seville, Travis and Shannon, Tricia and Jay, and his great niece, Julia. Farrel was predeceased by his first wife, MaryJoan.

Farrel was an avid lover of the bush, rivers and lakes. Whether prospecting with Pa, canoeing, camping, or boating with family and close friends, he was at home in nature. The Mississagi Valley, Chubb Lake, Conacher Lake, Rocky Island and Lake Huron were his pieces of heaven. Travels with Linda to other destinations around the globe provided Farrel an opportunity to share his knowledge of world history and current events. His stories will live on and long be remembered by family, friends and acquaintances.

Visitation will take place from 2 – 4 p.m. on Friday, October 28, 2022 at Beggs Funeral Home, immediately followed by a celebration of Farrel’s life for family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family appreciates your support of the North Shore Health Network – Thessalon Site, the Thessalon Township Heritage Association, the Canadian Red Cross or a charity of your choice.
